Australia 1985 Dollar Thin Planchet Error
Struck on a partially split planchet. The edge of the planchet was thin, either due to it being punched at the edge/end of the strip or a piece flaking away before the coin was struck. The faulty blank was sent through the rimming machine then the coin press. The result is a large weak area of the coin. The coin is underweight at 8.06g (a regular dollar weighs 9 grams).
