Australia 1999-2006 2 Dollar Die Adjustment Strike Error
Easily mistaken for a $2 coin blank but look closely at the left image and you can see a very faint Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. You can easily see forehead, ear and back of HM’s neck. This coin blank has been through the press and been struck under very low pressure. The weak strike either adjustment of the die pressure or a malfunction of the press caused it to strike with a much lower pressure than usual. Given the Rank-Broadley portrait began use in 1999 and the coin was purchased in 2006 it was struck somewhere in this date range.
