1970 Captain James Cook National Trust of Australia Victoria Medal in Copper
Designed by Andor Meszaros and struck by Stokes Ltd. 52 millimetres diameter. Struck in copper (3,000) and silver (300). Carlisle reference c1970/32. This example struck in copper housed in black textured box with blue velour lining. Inside the lid is printed “STOKES (A’ASIA) LTD. Melbourne, Australia Estb. 1856”
The obverse of the medal depicts James Cook and a helmsman at the ships wheel. It reads James Cook 1770 1970 along with ANDOR Meszaros and Stokes Melb. The reverse legend reads NATIONAL TRUST AUSTRALIA VICTORIA with a compass behind a heraldic protective bird (the National Trust’s emblem).
