Australia 1965 Australian Coin Week Medallion
An exhibition was held in the Sydney Town Hall for Australian Coin Week 14-20 November 1965. This coincided with the Sydney Coin Club’s first anniversary and they struck a medallion to commemorate. Its design copied that of the Australian crown struck in 1937 and 1938, although a little smaller, 35 millimetre. This medallion was struck in silver, copper and this example in cadmium plate. The medallion is housed in a red box with “1965 Australian Coin Week 14-20 November” printed on the inside lining of the lid.
The Australian Coin Week exhibition saw 8,500 people pass through it’s doors over the 3 days it was open. On display at the exhibition were the dies used to produce this medal along with less important things like a 1930 penny and a holey dollar.
