Australia 1947 Half Penny – Denticle Pattern on Kangaroo Back
Interesting 1947 half penny with denticle pattern in relief from top of kangaroo’s back on reverse. It’s theorised this comes about when part of the rim of the die breaks and clashes against the die resulting in the denticle pattern being struck in all coins from that point forward. This sort of variety has been observed on a number of different years of (mostly) Perth struck bronze coins. This coin is a lovely glossy uncirculated brown.
