Australia 1964 Penny Cold Shut Error

1964 Penny Cold Shut Error

1964 Penny Cold Shut Error

We call this error a cold shut. The coin was struck on a planchet that had a piece of metal rolled into the planchet and that piece fell out before the coin was struck. This left the struck coin with weakness behind where the stray metal piece was adhered. The coin is underweight at 8.97g (should be 9.45g). US book mint errors refers to this as struck on a rolled in metal blank or planchet. Melbourne or Perth penny.
