1893 World’s Columbian Exposition Ticket – Washington Souvenir Portrait
An entry ticket to the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, USA. This one has the portrait of George Washington, one of many different entry ticket designs printed as collectable souvenirs. The other designs include portraits of a Native American, Christoper Columbus, Abraham Lincoln, Ben Franklin, and the German composer, Handel. This one is virtually as issued with a little discolouration.
As an interesting aside this ticket was found in an envelope that was hidden in a copy Krause’s World Banknote Catalogue that we bought second hand from a book clearance sale. The envelope fell out of the book when we got it home and were looking through it. The envelope contained about a dozen banknotes and another Exposition ticket.
