1801 Middlesex Farthing Pidcock’s Zoo Token D&H 456 PCGS AU55
Catalogued by Dalton & Hamer as Middlesex DH456 and listed as a farthing. Probably not a Conder token though, but rather a token sold by Gilbert Pidcock who ran a menagerie that could be found at Exeter Exchange on the Strand in London. The token was either a collectable or could be used as part of the admission fee to the zoo. A range of tokens were issued mating a number of obverses with different reverses. This one shows a kangaroo with a joey in pouch on on side and the legend THIS KANGAROO’S BIRTH SEP 10 1800 and on the other side a parrot with the legend ORANGE CRESTED COCKATOO and the date 1801.
