Great Britain 1812 Half Penny Token Staffordshire 117 Wednesbury
Bronze center grained half penny token. Obverse shows bare headed bust of George III with legend “HALF PENNY TOKEN”. Reverse shows the Royal Exchange in London (which burned down in 1838) and the legends “FOR PUBLIC ACCOMMODATION – ROYAL EXCHANGE”. Catalogued in British Tokens and their Values (Seaby 1984) as Staffordshire 117. Somewhat sketchily attributed to a mint in Wednesbury and issued by one Abel Round. According to the British Museum Abel Round was a merchant/tradesman or malster from Wednesbury in the West Midlands (Staffordshire).
