Great Britain 1970 Half Crown Partial Collar Error NGC PF66
Mintage of 750,000 coins how did this error on a proof coin ever leave the Royal Mint! The error is a straight partial collar where the planchet was not engaged all the way in the press when the coin was struck. It has resulted in a lip around the entire edge with missing milling so in fact the coin has a wider diameter on the reverse.
Interestingly the British demonetised the 1/2 Crown from December 31st 1969 so this proof coin, for the last year of issue before decimalization, was never issued as legal tender. It was found only in the proof sets.
